How to play club soccer for less
Fully funded academies, clubs that say they help, what a tax return's aid line means, and the cheaper end of competitive soccer by level — from the clubs' own pages and returns.
Four ways to pay less: be selected by a fully funded academy, choose a club whose own site or return says it helps, play a level below the national platforms, and ask with a number in hand.
1. Be selected by a fully funded academy
28 clubs list a mandatory dues line at $0 on their own fee sheet, the MLS academies. The program covers dues, kit, travel and tournaments; families pay personal gear, about $150–$400 a year. Entry is by tryout or scouting, usually from U12 up, and the program can release a player at season's end.

2. Choose a club that says it helps
403 of 1083 listed clubs say so in their own words: 369 name need-based aid, scholarships, a sliding scale or a work exchange on their site, 91 report a financial-assistance line on their own tax return, and 0 confirmed it to us. A club that says nothing is shown as saying nothing, never as “no aid”. Filter search to these clubs, then ask before tryouts with the aid guide.
The return's assistance line is the club's sworn figure for scholarships, waivers and fee reductions. It is the strongest evidence that aid is real, and it says nothing about who qualifies or how much any one family got.
3. Play a level below the national platforms
Median posted program fee at each level among the clubs we have priced, before travel and gear. A year in a regional or local league before a national platform is the pathway most families take.

143 of the 296 clubs with a competitive price (48%) post a competitive program at or under $1,500 a year. Sort competitive clubs by cost and add your state; every state page carries this table by age band. Travel at the national platforms roughly doubles the posted number.
4. Ask with a number in hand
After you report what your club charged, the site shows it against what the club posts and what other parents reported. A gap is a question for the registrar.
