Where the numbers come from
The club's own website, parents who paid, the club itself, and the club's own tax return.
Every number on a club page says where it came from. There are four sources, and each is labelled so you can tell them apart.
1. The club's own website
Fee pages, PDFs and the registration pages a club links to. We read each club's site regularly and record the prices it posts. A posted fee is one the club published itself; every row links the page it came from and shows the date that page last showed that amount. Nothing behind a login is ever read.
2. Parents who paid
A parent can report what a club charged them. A report is published as Awaiting a second report and is not counted in any total until a second parent, or the club's own site, agrees with it within 15%. Then it becomes Community Reported and the row says how many parents agree. Nothing a parent types is shown; only the number.
3. The club itself
A club can claim its page for free. Once verified, it sees every fee we show and confirms or corrects each one; a confirmed row carries Club Confirmed and that day's date. Claiming changes nothing else about the page.
4. The club's own tax return
Most clubs are nonprofits and file a public annual return. Where a club's return is matched, its page shows what families paid the club in total that year, divided by an estimated roster, as a per-player figure. It is an average of everything the club collects per head, dues, camps and tournaments included, so it is never a fee and is shown greyer beside posted prices. A match that a person has not yet reviewed says so. A boarding academy's return covers the whole school, so no per-player figure is shown for one.
When a club posts nothing
Many clubs keep every price behind a registration login. The page then says not published yet, shows the date the site was last read, asks a parent who knows for one number, and offers an alert for when a price appears. If the club's return gives a figure, that is the first number on the page.
What is never a source
A directory's word for a club's level (shown as “unconfirmed” until the club's own pages say otherwise), anything behind a login, anything a club pays for, and anything typed into the search box.
